Sally Nicholls, the Quaker author of Things A Bright Girl Can Do, has been shortlisted for the YA (Young Adult) Book Prize 2018. The writer appears on the shortlist alongside prestigious names such as Phillip Pullman and previous 2017 winner Patrice Lawrence.

Clitheroe Meeting House celebrates first birthday
Friends in Clitheroe celebrated the first birthday of their new Meeting house last week, with cake after its Meeting for Worship. The Meeting house in Lancashire opened its doors last March, when they moved from their former historic site in Sawley due to its remote location and dwindling numbers.

Friends open doors to homeless

Weston-super-Mare Meeting House was in the news last week for opening its doors to homeless people by providing an emergency shelter in the cold weather. Quaker and non-Quaker volunteers served dinner and breakfast to local homeless people from Tuesday night to Sunday night, when the town was besieged with snow.
